The overall aim of this project is to provide a graduated professional development support experience across all participating UGC funded institutions to facilitate the development of teachers’ skills in online and blended teaching. Coordinating this effort across institutions and conducting in a blended mode will:
a) encourage consistency and quality through good practices and broad evaluation
b) add authenticity through offering blended professional development experiences to teachers located in different institutions
c) allow the pooling of professional development staff and resources for the benefit of all.
The project involves five institutions (PolyU, HKIEd, HKBU, HKU and HKUST) who will work collaboratively towards the overall aim of the project, whilst further developing strategies and initiatives that contextualise and address their own institutional needs.
BOLT Foundation Course
At the heart of the BOLT Project is the BOLT foundation course, led by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and open to faculty members from all participating institutions.
Two 6-week modules are offered in a blended format, with face-to-face sessions and online learning. Together they look at designing and implementing blended learning, aiming to increase teachers’ familiarity and use of eLearning tools and techniques, informed by pedagogically sound principles.

This is a prototype professional development approach to build a culture of blended learning via ambassadors who deliver customised department-based professional development and the building of professional learning community.
HKBU Faculty Professional Development Series
Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) contributes with its Faculty Professional Development Series (FPDS) which aims to provide a series of professional development workshops on enhancing teaching and learning with the use of eLearning technologies. The Series focuses on engaging teaching and learning activities and criterion-based assessments for enhanced students’ learning.
